"The Gods do not subtract from the allotted span of mens lives the hours spent in fishing." This observation from the Greek philosopher/angler Piscius in the eighth century B.C. sums up our age old pursuit of the pleasure and relaxation afforded by simply fishing.
Whether from the beach or dock, back country in the mangroves, or OFFSHORE in blue waters, Marco Island offers up plenty of variety in size and species of fish.
Odds of your success vary and are related to your knowledge of bait, tackle, tides, and specific fishing location. Visitors to the island generally either rent a boat from one of the marinas or charter a boat from a local captain.
The advantage of chartering is that all bait, licenses and tackle are provided and the captain knows where the fish are and how to catch them! Many Marco Islanders choose not to own a boat but to charter their favorite boat/captains when friends and family come to town. It seems to be by far the most cost-effective way to enjoy the sparkling waters of Marco Island and the Ten Thousand Islands.
OFFSHORE fishing by far offers the most variety of fish to be caught, the numbers of fish to be caught, and the size and quality of fish caught. That is precisely why I choose to offer OFFSHORE fishing trips to my guests.
Hotel and Resort guests of Marco Island owe it to themselves to devote at least one day to "rob the clock" as did Piscius many years ago.
