An assortment of different species of fish occasionally caught on the Enterprise.
Spadefish are often seen circling the back of the boat when we fish on the wrecks around Marco Island. They provide a lot of fun fishing for the smaller kids who "sight fish" for them. Dropping a half shrimp on a small hook with a little "kiddy rod" (for their small hands to grip properly) results in a good fight for a tyke.<br />

Large porgies (no relation to the northern fish of the same name) are found in deeper water and are excellent eating. The late Frank Nuovo, a regular client, with a nice example.<br />

The tripletail, also known as buoyfish, hangs around the stone crab trap buoys that, during stone crab season, dot the Gulf of Mexico waters around Marco Island and theTen Thousand Islands. Dave Shewit and kids a few years ago.<br />

Snook are occasionally caught on board Enterprise, although we don\'t target them anymore due to size limitations which are prohibitive. This snook (as most caught on Enterprise) is to big to keep. Catch and release unless they fit into a small \"slot\" between minimum and maximum size. Stan Arendts of Mission Viejo, California.<br />

Redfish or Red Drum are sometimes caught in offshore waters. The big ones like this are called "Bull Reds" and are far to big to keep as there is a slot size into which the fish must fit to eat. They are great eating, and drastic measures had to be taken to preserve them when Chef Paul Prudhomme popularized "blackened redfish". Commercial net fishermen hunted them mercilessly, and the government had to step in. Redfish are primarily targeted by backwater fishermen on light tackle, but the big breeders will sometimes swim by and smack any baits that we will have in the water. This is a rare occurence.<br />

Sheepshead are primarily targeted during the winter months when the water is cold. They are found in large numbers on the nearshore reefs, and are caught with small hooks and half a shrimp. The "convict fish" are notorious bait thieves and&#160; can be difficult and frustrating to hook, requiring fast reflexes and a firm hook-set. They are good eating, but provide very little meat for their size. On Enterprise we will keep only the largest to filet at the dock. If you would like to fish for sheepshead for meat value, and keep every little one we catch, I will refer you to a different charter operation.<br />

Another snook, caught nearshore on Marco Island, early in the morning, on a glassy calm day. This fish is to big to keep. The bigger fish of some species are protected because they are the breeders.<br />
